Crafting in Style! We Tried Out a New Retreat…

The last week of March we tried out a new retreat that just opened last Fall.  WOW! I love it!  It’s called Moments Retreat Center and it’s in Lake Dallas, TX.  My downline, Becky, found this one for us and we had the whole craft studio to ourselves (5 of us) for the whole weekend starting on Thursday.

Here’s a couple of photos of the studio.  See all my tote bags and card stock crates.  I took these photos after I packed up to leave.

We have a tool sign up list that I made for the last retreat we tried so we can try not to all bring duplicate tools.  I brought all the punches.  It pretty much covered an entire table that someone would have used if other crafters were there.  I guess in the future, we’ll need some folding tables to put tools on.

A sink and a mini fridge right in the studio was awesome!

The house is beautiful!  I wish my house was decorated this nicely.  Here’s some photos of our room and the house…we stayed in the Master Suite which was called the Ruby Room.  I wish I had taken a photo before we messed up our beds, but all the rooms are beautiful!

We laughed, talked, watched movies, listened to classic rock, and created lots of fun stuff.  I can’t wait to go to this one again.  Plus, the location is just 30 minutes from my house.

One of my projects was this banner I made with my Sale.a.bration Heartfelt Banner kit.  I photographed it on her fireplace ’cause, well, look how nice it looks there!  I currently have it hanging over the blinds in my craft room.

Here’s what our stuff looked like after we took over the tables, lol.

BTW, I have a craft show this Saturday at Faithbridge Presbyterian Church in Frisco at College and Hillcrest Rd.  And, also be looking out for the retired list which posts on April 21st!

Petite Petals Window Lattice Card

I saw a card on our demo site by Linda Creech that inspired my card below.  This is a Big Shot intense card…just sayin’!  Practically every piece runs through the Big Shot so I pre-cut a few of the pieces for my Stamp Night gals.  I look forward to Spring every year so I can start using purples and greens together.  That combination just says Spring to me.

  • You’re Lovely (Sale-a-Bration)
  • Petite Petals

  • Wisteria Wonder
  • Old Olive
  • Whisper White

Tools / Extras:

  • Big Shot
  • Lattice Bigz Die
  • Perfect Polka-Dots embossing folder
  • Little Leaves Sizzlits
  • Deco Labels Framelits
  • Window Frames Framelits
  • Petite Petals Punch
  • 1 3/4″ Circle Punch
  • Basic Jewels Pearls
  • 2-Way Glue Pen
  • Dimensionals

Tips:  Use the 2-Way Glue Pen in the corners of the Lattice to glue behind your window before running through the Big Shot Perfect Polka-Dots folder.  Also, you can use the tape or dimensionals on your flowers to hold your leaves in place.  I put dimensionals behind the card front window to create a shadow on the card base, and you can cut a tiny dimensional to place in the center of the Lattice if you don’t like it dipping in toward the middle.

This would make a great Mother’s Day card…just use a Happy Mother’s Day stamp inside!

Because of Beautiful People Like You…

I love this People Like You single stamp set.  I did two layers and water-colored just a bit to color it in.

Stamp Set:

  • People Like You (link)

  • Sahara Sand
  • Canteloupe Crisp
  • Pistachio Pudding
  • Whisper White
  • Early Espresso

Extras / Tools:

  • Designer Label Punch
  • Aqua Painters
  • Dazzling Diamonds
  • Sweet Sorbet (Sale-a-Bration designer paper)
  • Dimensionals
  • 2-Way Glue Pen

Tips – Just stamp your image twice and cut/punch one image and use the other for your base.  You only have to water-color the part you’re cutting out on the top layer piece.  And, it helps you with where to cut if you only water-color that portion.  I used my bone folder to curl some edges on the cut out.  Also, I water-colored the stems with Pistachio Pudding, but used the brush tip of the marker for the label outline.

Of course it’s hard to see in the photo, but I did little wisps of glue pen to add Dazzling Diamonds glitter on the flowers.

Hexagon Hive Thinlit – You Make Me Happy!

The Hexagon Hive Thinlit Die from the Celebrate the Everyday catalog makes a cool, quick background.  Since it makes thin borders, it works best if you put a piece of waxed paper between your card stock and your Thinlit similar to using the Thinlits we had in the Holiday catalog.  Also, I found that I just needed the waxed paper every other time.

The color scheme was inspired by the Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper in the Sale-a-Bration brochure.  And, if you need a lot of small hexagons, the Thinlit will cut 2 at a time of designer paper.  These are smaller hexagons than the ones you get with the Stampin’ Up! Hexagon Punch so they will layer for projects using the punch.

  •  Perfect Pennants (Celebrate the Everyday Catalog)

  • Pool Party
  • Summer Starfruit
  • Basic Black
  • Cantaloupe Crisp
  • Whisper White

Tools / Extras:

  • Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die
  • Banners Framelits Dies
  • Petite Petals Punch – 5 Petal Flower – LOVE!
  • Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack – Small Flower
  • Linen Thread
  • Basic Jewels Rhinestone (colored with Sharpie)
  • Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper (Sale-a-Bration)
  • Snail, Dimensionals & Glue Dots

I also like that there’s enough solid area on the back of the Hexagon Hive shape to use mostly snail to stick it down.  Along with the snail, it really only needs a glue dot on that bottom right corner.

Don’t forget to crumple up your flower shapes before sticking them on if you like that look!

Banner Blast Make & Take Party

Friday night I hosted a table at the Make & Take party for the Stamp Scrap Art Tour.  I used one of my Stamp Night Projects for January which is inspired from a project Shelli did at leadership.  It was a sell out with 95 guests.

Getting used to the format was the hardest part.  I had figured my card would take about 15 minutes and when they started the projects, they announced that the groups had only 15 minutes at each of 8 tables and then the whole group would rotate around the tables together.  Beverly was my helper, and we had to hustle to keep the ink pads, stamps and punches moving around the tables.  We had it figured out around the third group of 12 ladies.  Next time I will bring a 10 minute card and duplicates of all the supplies so it will be more relaxed.

They had a wonderful display of desserts to eat at the break in the middle.  I wish I had taken a photo of that.  There was a chocolate fountain with fun fruit and cake bites to dip in the waterfall of chocolate.  Also, they had cakes, cobblers, and little fancy chocolate things (who cares what they were called…it was luscious chocolate!).  The break also gave us some time to talk to the guests.

Here’s the whole card and the recipe:

  • Banner Blast (Sale-a-Bration – Free)
  • Four You (Annual Catalog)

  • Crumb Cake
  • Early Espresso
  • Strawberry Slush
  • Crisp Cantaloupe
  • Bermuda Bay
  • Whisper White

Tools / Supplies:

  • Linen Thread
  • Banner Punch (Sale-a-Bration – Free)
  • Dimensionals & Glue Dots
  • Rhinestone Basic Jewels
  • Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (flower punch)
  • Merry Minis Punch Pack (star punch – carried over from Holiday Catalog)

I showed them the Easy Splatter Technique that Shelli showed us on stage at Leadership.  Here’s the page in my Technique Journal for Stamp Night.
